Softball Recap: Sylvania Wins Going Away Against Randolph School

Sylvania saw some tournament action on Saturday. They blew past the Randolph School Raiders 10-4.

Mara Anderson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

In other batting news, Jada Hutchison and Mallory Miles did most of the damage at the plate: Hutchison scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Miles scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Miles a new career-high in RBI (two). Jaelyn Smith was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Sylvania kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.2.

Sylvania's victory bumped their record up to 5-13. As for Randolph School, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

Sylvania has already played their next contest, a 6-2 loss against Athens Bible on the 5th. As for Randolph School, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 5-4 win against Brindlee Mountain on the 5th.
