Oil City back has piled up 3,400 yards and 36 touchdowns in 12 games since the start of his sophomore season.

Through just four games of the 2022 high school football season, Oil City (Pa.) running back Ethen Knox has built an all-state-caliber statistical resume. Heading into this week's matchup with Northwestern, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound junior has run 129 times for an unbelievable 1,575 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Oil City improved to 4-0 last week with a 64-0 win over Franklin. In that contest, Knox topped 400 yards on the ground for the third consecutive week, finishing with 28 carries for 424 yard and five touchdowns. That was a bit of a step down from the week before when he carried the rock 44 times for 445 yards and five scores.

Knox found the end zone seven times on 26 carries in the Oilers' second game of the season, a 55-6 win that saw him finish with 402 yards.

All credit goes to Oil City's offensive line, according to Knox.

"I definitely try to give credit where it’s due," Knox told Mike Kilroy of ExploreVenango.com. "I try to help them out as much as they can for all that they do for me. They make me look like a superstar when they’re doing all the work."

As a sophomore, the former wide receiver ran 253 times for 1,825 yards and 14 touchdowns as Oil City struggled to a 3-5 record.

That means in Knox's last 12 games dating back to the start of the 2021 season, he has run for 3,400 yards (283.3 per game) and 36 touchdowns. While the odds say the numbers are sure to return to Earth at some point, he's on pace for almost 4,000 yards through Oil City's 10-game regular season schedule this season.
