Softball Recap: Saint James Picks Up 12th Consecutive Win

Saint James put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Central of Clay County Volunteers a 14-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Nobody will forget Emily Needham's heroic performance anytime soon (especially Central of Clay County's batters): she turned in a perfect game. Needham has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Tatiana Shuford was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. Kayla Blackwell was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1.

Saint James was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in eight consecutive games.

Saint James' win bumped their record up to 12-0. As for Central of Clay County, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Saint James didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 6-1 victory against Beulah on the 1st. As for Central of Clay County, they will welcome Woodland at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Woodland's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Central of Clay County's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
