Baseball Recap: Penobscot Valley Drops Highest Score of Season Against Penquis Valley

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Penobscot Valley). They blew past the Penquis Valley Patriots 18-5 on Monday. The Howlers haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Matt Hatch was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Hatch was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, Chase Osgood was a standout: he got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Max Hamel, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Penobscot Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Penquis Valley only posted an OBP of .375.

Penobscot Valley's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-6. As for Penquis Valley, they are on a 22-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Penobscot Valley will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Patriots: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
