Basketball Recap: Marion Takes a Loss

Marion lost against St. James back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Swamp Foxes came up short against the Sharks, falling 68-44. While losing is never fun, the Swamp Foxes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 123rd, while the Sharks are ranked 13th).

Despite the loss, Marion still got an impressive performance from Joshaun Grant, who shot 47% from the field to rack up 16 points along with seven assists and three steals. Grant is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jacaurie Brown, who posted seven points and seven rebounds.

Marion dropped their record down to 1-4 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for St. James, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.

Marion wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 67-42 win against Johnsonville on the 10th. As for St. James, they will head out to square off against Waccamaw at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Sharks' defense better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 57.7 points per game this season.
