Softball Game Preview: Cromwell Panthers vs. Westbrook Knights

Cromwell is 9-1 against Westbrook since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Panthers will venture away from home to face off against the Knights at 4:00 p.m. The last three games Cromwell has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Wednesday, Cromwell had just enough and edged out Bolton 7-5. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Ell Wren spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Addy Jupe, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Keira Beyer, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, Westbrook was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 14-2 to Valley Regional.

Westbrook's defeat dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Cromwell, their victory bumped their record up to 9-7.

Everything went Cromwell's way against Westbrook when the teams last played back in April, as Cromwell made off with a 12-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
