Football Game Preview: St. Pius X Lancers vs. Miller Career Academy/Vashon/Sumner Phoenix

The St. Pius X Lancers will venture away from home to square off against the Miller Career Academy/Vashon/Sumner Phoenix at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Pius X is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.

St. Pius X's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Cuba 70-0. That 70 point margin sets a new team best for the Lancers this season.

Cody Shaver was his usual excellent self, rushing for 209 yards and three TDs on only 15 carries. Shaver is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 152 every time he's taken the field this season. Evan Eckrich was another key player, throwing for 171 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: St. Pius X was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 431 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Miller Career Academy/Vashon/Sumner played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against Mater Dei, falling 48-8. Having soared to a lofty 38 points in the game before, the Phoenix couldn't push the score so high this time.

The victory got St. Pius X back to even at 3-3. As for Miller Career Academy/Vashon/Sumner, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

St. Pius X didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Miller Career Academy/Vashon/Sumner in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 23-18 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lancers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
