One team took the elevator way up and another took it way down in the power rankings this week. We'll tackle that and more in this week's report.
Can't Touch This
La Salle Academy got a 44 - 7 win over Portsmouth last week, and a key reason for the win was junior Nathan Lussier. Lussier ran for 182 yards and also punched in three touchdowns. That performance made Lussier one of the best players in the power rankings last week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of the hottest tickets last week involved the clash between Westerly (2nd in the power rankings) and Mt. Hope (13th). Westerly picked up a decisive 'W' against Mt. Hope, finishing up at 61 - 0. No one had a larger role in the success than senior Tristan Turano, who brought his A game into the contest. He rushed for 156 yards and four touchdowns.
No Stoppin 'Em
Given its edge in the MaxPreps state rankings, a win looked likely for East Greenwich in its matchup against Rogers. The team got that and then some. The final score between East Greenwich and Rogers was a 70 - 14 blowout in East Greenwich's favor. One major factor in the win was the play of senior Kevin Licciardi, who earned three touchdowns and 176 yards rushing the ball. At 84 total points, this was the highest scoring power ranking game of the week.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between East Providence (7th in the power rankings) and Cranston West (6th). This will be the second consecutive road game for Cranston West. East Providence and Cranston West can't both win again this week, so we'll learn on Friday which team falters and which extends its success.
