Softball Recap: Valmeyer Takes a Loss

Valmeyer extended their losing streak to seven on Monday, dropping their season record down to 1-7 in the process. They came up short against the Marissa/Coulterville Meteors, falling 12-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Meteors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-0 on Thursday.

As for Marissa/Coulterville, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games.

For Marissa/Coulterville's part, not much got past Paityn Hand, who gave up just a hit and racked up seven Ks to keep Valmeyer off the board. Hand has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ayla Ranck, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maci McLaughlin, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, Valmeyer will challenge Steeleville at 4:30 p.m. on the 6th. As for Marissa/Coulterville, they will face off against Red Bud at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Meteors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Musketeers have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
