Baseball Game Preview: Central Catholic Buttons vs. Sotomayor WILDCATS

Central Catholic is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Sotomayor is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. Central Catholic will welcome Sotomayor at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Central Catholic's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Sotomayor's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Wednesday, Central Catholic needed a bit of extra time to put away Eagle Pass. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Eagles.

Garrett Ticer was excellent, going 2-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted over his last nine games. Another player making a difference was Jason Herrera, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Sotomayor got the win against Holmes on Friday by a conclusive 13-3. The WILDCATS haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Evan Fine and Isaac Staten did most of the damage at the plate: Fine scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Staten scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Kolaiah Staten also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Sotomayor's win bumped their record up to 8-4-1. As for Central Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4-1 record this season.

Central Catholic beat Sotomayor 6-1 in their previous matchup back in February. Will Central Catholic repeat their success, or does Sotomayor has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
