League recap: KIPP Pride rises, Southeast Halifax falls in league standings

1A Tar-Roanoke league recap: 5/14/12

KIPP Pride made the biggest jump in the standings this week, moving from fifth to third place in the league thanks to a 2-0 record over the past seven days. Meanwhile, Southeast Halifax fell hardest in the standings, dropping from third all the way to fifth place after going 0-2 in the past week. Gates County (17-6, 12-0) is now in first place.

Matthew Holloman was the best pitcher in the league this week. He accumulated zero wins and eight strikeouts.

Northampton-East boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks. The Rams have given up a mere 121 hits on the year in addition to compiling 102 strikeouts. Holloman is the leader in that category with 50 Ks on the season.

Northampton-East stole 13 bases this week, adding to its league-leading 157 steals on the year. Manager David Hasty is giving his players opportunities to steal, and D'antre Richardson has racked up a team-high 24 stolen bases for the Rams.
