Baseball Recap: Oneida Comes Up Short

Oneida had lost three straight at home, but on Monday they dropped down to 6-8 to make it four. They came up short against the Coalfield Yellow Jackets, falling 16-3. The Indians were not able to make up for their defeat to the Yellow Jackets from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Oneida saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caden Shoemaker, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

As for Coalfield, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-1. The result was nothing new for the Yellow Jackets, who have now won eight contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

On Coalfield's side, Jackson Treece made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Treece was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Coalfield got a massive performance out of Blake Hester, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Hester a new career-high. Waylon Burgess was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

While Oneida had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
