Softball Game Preview: LaSalle-Peru Cavaliers vs. Serena Huskers

LaSalle-Peru has gone a perfect 4-0 against Serena recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Cavaliers will challenge the Huskers at 4:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as LaSalle-Peru comes in on 22 and Serena on nine.

LaSalle-Peru can't be too worried about heading out to take on Serena: they just beat Kaneland at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Cavaliers came out on top against the Knights by a score of 6-2 on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Serena got the win against Putnam County on Thursday by a conclusive 14-3. The result was nothing new for the Huskers, who have now won 17 matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

Cassie Walsh spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on RayElle Brennan, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lanee Cole, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Serena kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.

LaSalle-Peru's win was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 27-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Serena, their win bumped their record up to 21-6.

LaSalle-Peru skirted past Serena 7-5 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cavaliers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
