Baseball Game Preview: Boyd Yellowjackets vs. Liberty Christian Warriors

The Boyd Yellowjackets will head out to challenge the Liberty Christian Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Boyd 1.6, Liberty Christian 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Boyd is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Arlington Heights just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of Arlington Heights by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Boyd has suffered since March 29th.

Meanwhile, Liberty Christian entered their tilt with Southlake Carroll on Thursday with 14 consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 15. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over the Dragons.

Colton Zahorik tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Liberty Christian let Drake Hawpe and Evan Wells run wild. Hawpe got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base, while Wells went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Wells is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Liberty Christian pushed their record up to 29-4 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Boyd, their loss dropped their record down to 25-4.

Boyd came out on top in a nail-biter against Liberty Christian in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. Will the Yellowjackets repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
