Softball Recap: Mathews Extends Home Winning Streak to 17

Mathews barely beat Pymatuning Valley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs blew past the Lakers 15-5 on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won ten matches by nine runs or more so far this season.

Mathews pushed their record up to 13-3 with the win, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Pymatuning Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mathews will challenge Lowellville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rockets have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Pymatuning Valley, they will venture away from home to challenge Conneaut at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.78 runs per game on average), something the Lakers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
