Preview: Timpanogos Timberwolves vs. Mountain Crest Mustangs
The Timpanogos Timberwolves will face off against the Mountain Crest Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Timpanogos had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points), and they went ahead and made it four two weeks ago. They walked away with a 42-34 victory over Spanish Fork.
Timpanogos' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Chase Riggs, who threw for 413 yards and three touchdowns while completing 71.8% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Easton Bretzing, who rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Mountain Crest took their matchup at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 63-14 victory over Tooele. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-7.
Mountain Crest had a senior duo take command as Dax Benson gained 191 total yards and three touchdowns and Casey Crofts threw for 275 yards and three touchdowns on only 16 passes. Benson's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards. Owen Ryan did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 82 receiving yards.
Their wins bumped Timpanogos to 8-2 and Mountain Crest to 6-5.
