Basketball Game Preview: Northmont Thunderbolts vs. Fairmont Firebirds

Northmont hasn't had much luck against Fairmont recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Northmont Thunderbolts will host the Fairmont Firebirds at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Northmont is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed by Legion Collegiate Academy to the tune of 70-40 on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Thunderbolts.

Meanwhile, Fairmont was not able to break out of their rough patch last Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 65-62 heartbreaker at the hands of Bishop Hartley. While losing is never fun, the Firebirds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 269th, while the Hawks are ranked 55th).

Fairmont's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Northmont, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.

Northmont came up short against Fairmont in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 63-58. Can Northmont avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
