Softball Recap: Monona Grove Takes a Loss

Monona Grove fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Beaver Dam on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Golden Beavers by a score of 5-4. The loss continues a trend for the Silver Eagles in their meetings with the Golden Beavers: they've now lost six in a row.

Brooklyn Vanden Branden spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on 13 hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kaleia Knothe made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Veith, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Monona Grove now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Beaver Dam, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Monona Grove is taking a road trip to face off against Oregon at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Silver Eagles surely won't give up without a fight. As for Beaver Dam, they will be playing at home against Fort Atkinson at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Blackhawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.78 runs per game on average), something the Golden Beavers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
