Softball Game Preview: Independence Patriots vs. La Joya Community Lobos

For the second straight game, Independence will face off against La Joya Community. The Patriots will take on the Lobos at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Independence has six straight wins, La Joya Community has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Monday, Independence made easy work of La Joya Community and carried off an 8-1 victory. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

Nailea Lopez Flores spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Alondra Garcia was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Ariana Maciel-Brito also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

La Joya Community's loss dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Independence, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.

Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Independence has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .526. However, it's not like La Joya Community struggles in that department as they've averaged .572. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
