IV Section I recap Oct. 23, 2012
Blue Ridge was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in IV Section I. Earlier in the week, the Yellow Jackets defeated Show Low 24-14.
Blue Ridge extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Cougars, 24-14. The victory was the 10th in a row for Paul Moro's team.
Chase Walden was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 22 carries, he ran for 160 yards as Snowflake bested Mingus. Dallin Merrell also contributed to the rushing game with 38 yards on the ground.
Brimhall was the best wideout in IV Section I this week as the Lobos defeated the Marauders. Brimhall racked up seven receptions for 162 yards. Braccin Tanner helped Snowflake's passing attack out by catching two balls for 44 yards.
Kent Parrish made the biggest impact on defense this week as Monument Valley fell to Winslow. The 6-foot-4 junior forced one fumble.
Redmond Delmar threw for 260 yards and four touchdowns. He was 25-39 with two interceptions.
The Mustangs' Delmar and Tasi Malala have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Delmar has thrown for 1924 yards this season, while Malala, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 34 catches for 664 yards. Kelly Wood from the Bulldogs leads the league in rushing with 1224 yards.
Monument Valley's Delmar is within 76 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against Window Rock.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Winslow takes on the Yellow Jackets. B.J. Little's team is in fifth place, while Blue Ridge is in first place.
The Bulldogs led the league in scoring this week after putting up 62 points on Bryan Begay's team. Wood ran for 156 yards in the win.
