6A District 4 recap Oct. 9, 2012

Southmoore scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Lawton, 20-17. At the time, the Wolverines was ranked 11th in the state, while the SaberCats was 28th.

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Mustang, who took down 45th ranked Mustang, 41-13.

Southmoore's dynamic duo of Tre Edwards and Johnathan Martin proved tough for Lawton to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Edwards threw for 180 yards and one touchdown and Martin had 64 yards receiving. Jackson Stallings helped Southmoore's passing attack out by catching two balls for 47 yards.

Zach Long provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Norman topped Choctaw. He completed eight passes for 53 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 188 yards. Long's favorite target this week was Jakcob Dean, who caught six passes for 43 yards.

Keaton Bell made the biggest impact on defense this week as Jeff Brickman's team defeated Randy Breeze's team. The 5-foot-11 junior pulled down one interception, forced one fumble, recorded one fumble and grabbed 1.0 sack.

Thanks to the talents of Edwards and Karltrell Henderson the SaberCats have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Edwards leads the league in passing with 1193 yards, while Henderson has rushed for 756 yards this season. The Yellowjackets' Cote Barber leads the league in receiving yards with 458 on 28 catches.

The top two teams in 6A District 4 will face off this week when first place Southmoore takes on second place Norman. Southmoore bested the Wolverines last week, while the Tigers defeated Choctaw.

There should be lots of points scored when the SaberCats and Norman face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Southmoore comes in having scored 248 this season, while Greg Nation's team has scored 228. The SaberCats scored 20 points last week as they beat Lawton.

Edmond Memorial moved up to 98 from 126 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Bulldogs were able to make the jump by beating the Broncos 41-13.
