Baseball Recap: Riverdale Takes a Loss

Riverdale was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cypress Lake Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, with their most recent loss being a 1-0 defeat back in March.

Kaden Varnadoe was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Riverdale is 6-3 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Riverdale saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brycen Childers, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Riverdale's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Cypress Lake, their record now sits at 7-13.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Riverdale will take on Southwest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cypress Lake, they will face off against Gateway at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season.
