Softball Recap: Petersburg Has No Trouble Against Lincoln

Petersburg had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Lincoln on Friday. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 17-4 margin over the Cougars. With that win, the Vikings brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.

Gracie Carpenter made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Petersburg got a massive performance out of Ella Markwell, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those five RBI gave Markwell a new career-high. Miley Tingler was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI.

Petersburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lincoln only managed nine hits.

Petersburg has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Lincoln, their loss dropped their record down to 9-4.

Coincidentally, Petersburg and Lincoln will both be playing St. Marys the next time they take the field. The Vikings will host the Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Cougars will play them later in the day, at 6:30 p.m.
