Basketball Recap: Ellensburg Now 7-1 over Last Eight Games

Ellensburg won the last time they faced Toppenish and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Ellensburg Bulldogs walked away with a 69-59 victory over the Toppenish Wildcats. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Wildcats are ranked 216th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Toppenish's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Alex Bazan, who posted 19 points, and Jason Sanchez, who put up 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Davila, who earned seven points.

Ellensburg is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Toppenish, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ellensburg will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Prosser at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. As for Toppenish, they will challenge East Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. East Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Toppenish likes a good challenge.
