Baseball Recap: Palisades Takes a Loss

If Palisades was riding high fresh off their 8-0 takedown of East Mecklenburg on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pumas fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 3-2 on Monday. The Pumas were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 8-0.

Thomas Watson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits.

At the plate, Pat Bankos was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Palisades' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-2 (and 7-8 when he doesn't). Brayden English was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double.

Palisades' defeat dropped their record down to 12-10. As for East Mecklenburg, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 11-14.

Palisades does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for East Mecklenburg, they will face off against Providence at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
