Softball Game Preview: Racine Lutheran Crusaders vs. St. Catherine's Angels

For the second straight game, Racine Lutheran will face off against St. Catherine. The Crusaders will head out on the road to take on the Angels at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Racine Lutheran is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.

Racine Lutheran is headed into the contest having just posted their closest victory since April 16, 2024 on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Catherine's, sneaking past 9-7.

Iyana Garza made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emilie Lozano Weaver, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Ramos, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Racine Lutheran's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for St. Catherine's, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.

Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Racine Lutheran hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .400.
