Baseball Recap: Mt. Healthy Comes Up Short

Mt. Healthy had lost 13 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 1-14 to make it 14. They lost 27-1 to the Purcell Marian Cavaliers. The Fighting Owls were not able to make up for their defeat to the Cavaliers from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

As for Purcell Marian, the victory snapped their losing streak at six games and leaves them with a 6-15 record. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Purcell Marian's part, Ronan Ribar made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Ribar has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI. Purcell Marian is 2-1 when Ribar posts two or more runs, but 4-14 otherwise.

In other batting news, Eugene Ingram was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with six RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Purcell Marian: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-14 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Hopkins, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Coming up, Mt. Healthy will take on Batavia in a tournament on Wednesday. As for Purcell Marian, they will be taking part in a tournament against Felicity-Franklin at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
