Basketball Recap: Samuel Cano's Big Game Can't Quite Lead North Broward Prep over Sagemont

North Broward Prep was the 64-63 winner over Sagemont when they last played one another back in January of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The North Broward Prep Eagles took a 65-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sagemont Prep on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 64th, while the Prep are ranked 16th).

North Broward Prep lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Samuel Cano, who went 7 for 15 on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ryan Baxley, who went 5 of 7 en route to 13 points and five assists.

Even though they lost, North Broward Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

North Broward Prep's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Sagemont, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-6 record.

North Broward Prep wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 70-61 victory against Park Vista on the 17th. Sagemont has also already played their next matchup, a 67-57 win against Gateway Charter on the 23rd.
