Baseball Recap: Palma Wins Going Away Against Carmel

Palma had won three straight on the road, but on Saturday they bumped their record up to 16-5 to make it four. They put the hurt on the Carmel Padres with a sharp 9-1 victory. Considering the Chieftains have won 11 contests by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Manny Dorantes was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Rocco Razzeca was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Johnny Carnazzo was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

As for Carmel, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-7 record this season. Surprisingly, this marked their third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

On Carmel's side, they got a good showing from Carter Lloyd, who tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the fewest earned runs Lloyd has allowed since back in March.

Palma and Carmel should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Chieftains (ranked 111th) will meet Hollister (ranked 243rd) at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Palma 2.9, the Haybalers 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Carmel will take on Monterey at 5:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (240 vs. 588).
