Baseball Recap: Derryfield Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Conant

Derryfield faced Conant in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Cougars took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Orioles. That makes it the first time this season the Cougars have let down their home crowd.

Derryfield got a good showing from Liam Ryan, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Ryan has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

Derryfield's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Conant, they pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Derryfield will challenge Hillsboro-Deering at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Conant, they will take on Stevens at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
