Football Recap: Rico Buitrago's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy over Westminster Academy

Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy and Westminster Academy squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Lions by a score of 33-30. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Tigers, who until this matchup were averaging 14.7 points allowed.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rico Buitrago, who threw for 246 yards and two TDs. JORDAN OSBORNE handled things on the ground, rushing for 94 yards.

Even if they lost, Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy's defensive line still kept up the pressure with seven sacks. Leading the way was Dustin Strom with two. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.2 total tackles per game. Oliver Esmailzadeh was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making five total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Westminster Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Cortland Brownfield out in front who threw for 205 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 33 yards. The Lions' leading receiver Robert Donald was Brownfield's top target yet again, picking up 93 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy moved to 7-3 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Westminster Academy, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Westminster Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 41-15 defeat against NSU University on the 7th.
