Softball Recap: Hayfield Takes a Loss

After soaring to ten runs the game before, Hayfield was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They fell just short of the Southland Rebels by a score of 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Vikings have suffered since May 3, 2025.

Ella Bamlet put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run.

Hayfield's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Southland, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1.

Looking ahead, Hayfield will take on Rushford-Peterson at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.07 runs per game on average), something the Vikings will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Southland, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Houston at 12:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Rebels 3.2, the Hurricanes 1.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
