Softball Recap: South Greene Wins Going Away Against Johnson County

South Greene won against Happy Valley two weeks ago with 16 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. South Greene blew past the Johnson County Longhorns 16-2. That 14 run margin sets a new team best for the Rebels this season.

Kortnei Bailey was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Nevaeh Davis was a standout: she scored four runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Whitney Reaves was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

South Greene kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive games.

South Greene's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Johnson County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Greene and North Greene will meet in a classic North v. South matchup at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Johnson County, they will take on Sullivan East at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
