Volleyball Recap: Thursday's Loss Ends St. Edward's Winning Streak

If St. Edward was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Walsh Jesuit on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Eagles fell just short of the Firestone Falcons by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The Eagles' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

St. Edward actually scored more points across those five sets (115-108), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 26-28, 30-28, 12-25, 25-21, 15-13.

Jabari Babb paced St. Edward's offense, picking up 13 kills. Babb got some help from Michael Gall and his 35 assists.

Tala Paing was a one-man wrecking crew For Firestone. as he had 35 assists and 15 digs. Those 15 digs gave Paing a new career-high. Sir?Vontaye Wooldridge-Johnson was another key player, getting 14 digs and four assists.

St. Edward's loss dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Firestone, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-6.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. St. Edward is set to challenge their familiar foe Mt. Vernon at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Firestone will square off against rival Walsh Jesuit at 7:00 p.m. on the 9th. The timing is sure in the Falcons' favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while the Warriors have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
