Softball Game Preview: Covington Lions vs. Mandeville Skippers

Covington hasn't had much luck against Mandeville recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Covington will be playing at home against Mandeville. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Covington came up short against Ponchatoula on Thursday, falling 17-6.

Meanwhile, Mandeville fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against E.D. White on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 7-6. The Skippers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Mandeville got a good showing from Mia Baham, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Baham has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lindsay Berniard made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Covington's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 11-3. As for Mandeville, their loss dropped their record down to 11-4.

Covington might still be hurting after the 7-0 defeat they got from Mandeville when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Covington avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
