Basketball Recap: Bayou Academy Comes Up Short

Bayou Academy was the 45-42 winner over Rossville Christian Academy when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Bayou Academy Colts took a blow against the Rossville Christian Academy Wolves on Saturday, falling 77-43.

Rossville Christian Academy was led to victory by Zach Portwood and Fred Motley. Portwood went 9 for 16 on his way to 25 points in addition to seven boards and five assists, while Motley went 9 of 14 on his way to 20 points along with six rebounds and five assists. With that strong performance, Portwood is now averaging an impressive 15.6 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Micah Brooks, who posted eight points.

Bayou Academy's loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Rossville Christian Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-8 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bayou Academy will be taking part in a tournament against Oak Forest Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Oak Forest Academy will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something Bayou Academy surely won't give up without a fight. Rossville Christian Academy and Holly Springs will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
