Basketball Recap: Cayden Lewis' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Draughn over Newton-Conover

Draughn was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a 63-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Newton-Conover Red Devils. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Red Devils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 77-35 two weeks ago.

Draughn's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cayden Lewis, who went 7-for-15 to rack up 20 points in addition to seven rebounds and three blocks. Lewis is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Titus Dodd, who shot 42% from the field en route to 14 points along with five boards and three steals.

Braxton Eckard went supernova For Newton-Conover., going 10-for-22 on his way to 24 points. Bryce Mitchell was another key player, putting up ten points and five steals.

Draughn's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Newton-Conover, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.

Draughn didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 75-54 loss against St. Stephens on the 2nd. As for Newton-Conover, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 62-59 victory against Alexander Central on the 3rd.
