Football Recap: Lugoff-Elgin Starts off Right with Win over Lower Richland

Lugoff-Elgin took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They strolled past the Lower Richland Diamond Hornets with points to spare, taking the game 28-14. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Demons also won the last time the pair played back in August of 2024.

Shamil Saadiq had an outrageously good game as he picked up 174 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Those 174 receiving yards gave him a new career-high. Lugoff-Elgin also got a significant boost from Jar'Kese Grant, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 80 yards.

Lugoff-Elgin's run defense was locked in: Lower Richland could only muster 2.7 yards per carry. The team can thank Tristan Young for the heroic effort on defense: he. Lugoff-Elgin didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged nine.

Lugoff-Elgin's defense didn't let Gerald Gibson., get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Jace Coleman was especially locked on to Lower Richland's QB and sacked him twice. Young was another major factor on D, making 15 total tackles (4.0 for loss).

Looking ahead, Lugoff-Elgin will challenge Camden at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Lower Richland, they will face off against Spring Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
