Baseball Recap: Lincoln-Way East Comes Up Short

Lincoln-Way East extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping their season record down to 21-9 in the process. They fell 8-3 to the Lockport Porters. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Porters this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-1 on Wednesday.

As for Lockport, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 20-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.

For Lockport's part, Trace Schaaf spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on four hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Lockport let Nick Moerman and Brendan Mecher run wild. Moerman went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Mecher went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Those two hits gave Moerman a new career-high. Bryce Flood was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lincoln-Way East will take on Sandburg at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Lockport, they will face off against Minooka at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Porters have won five straight at home, while the Indians won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
