Softball Recap: Ledyard Finds Playoff Glory Versus Woodstock Academy

Ledyard had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They came out on top against the Woodstock Academy Centaurs by a score of 11-6 on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Colonels considering their two-run performance the game before.

Alexia Lemmon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Faith Dalton was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 11 contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Bonser, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Ledyard hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive matchups.

Ledyard pushed their record up to 20-4 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Woodstock Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.

Ledyard will square off against Guilford on Wednesday. The Colonels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Grizzlies have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. Woodstock Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
