Softball Game Preview: Clear Lake Cardinals vs. Upper Lake Cougars

Clear Lake has gone 9-1 against Upper Lake recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Cardinals will welcome the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. Clear Lake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

While Clear Lake's win against Middletown wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cardinals had just enough and edged out the Mustangs 7-6. The victory continues a trend for the Cardinals in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won five in a row.

Atiana Patino was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Faith Mcintire, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Karsyn Greer, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Upper Lake's offense. They came up short against St. Helena on Tuesday, falling 13-0. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Saints recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Clear Lake now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Upper Lake, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.
