Ryan Canipe and Peyton Conley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Canipe pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Conley pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Canipe scored four runs and stole four bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Conley went 2-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Conley has become a key player for Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-3 otherwise.
In other batting news, Brodie Edwards was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Crowl, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.
Meanwhile, Franklin County strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They came out on top against Cave Spring by a score of 7-2. Those seven runs were actually the fewest the Eagles have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy's victory was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Franklin County, their record is now 5-0.
Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy suffered a grim 18-8 defeat to Franklin County in their previous meeting last Monday. Can the Ospreys avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
