Basketball Recap: Cesar Chavez Extends Winning Streak to Three

Cesar Chavez proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 24) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged the Maryvale Panthers out 57-55. The victory was nothing new for the Champions as they're now sitting on three straight.

Cesar Chavez's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Drayce Crenshaw, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance gave Crenshaw a new career-high in points. Gabriel Briones was another key player, going 6 for 13 en route to 16 points along with six boards and six steals.

Cesar Chavez was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maryvale only racked up six assists.

When it comes to explaining why Maryvale lost, don't look at Adrian Stubbs. Despite the final result, he went 15 of 31 on his way to 36 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. Stubbs has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 16 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Devin Murphy, who posted six points and 13 boards.

Cesar Chavez is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 11-10 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.4 points per game. As for Maryvale, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-9.
