Basketball Game Preview: Amherst Broncos vs. Elm Creek Buffaloes

The Amherst Broncos will take on the Elm Creek Buffaloes in a tournament on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Amherst sitting on six straight victories and Elm Creek on 13.

Last Monday, Amherst didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Pleasanton, but they still walked away with a 47-43 win.

Amherst's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but AnnDee Jaixen led the charge by putting up 16 points. Jaixen's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Addy Simmons was another key player, posting 14 points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Elm Creek). They blew past Loomis, posting a 71-40 victory. The Buffaloes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matches by 26 points or more this season.

Elm Creek's win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 26.3 points. As for Amherst, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.

Amherst didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Elm Creek in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 48-42 victory. Will Amherst repeat their success, or does Elm Creek have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
