Softball Preview: Jacksonville Fightin' Indians vs. Madisonville Mustangs
Jacksonville has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Madisonville Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Jacksonville is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, Jacksonville made easy work of Palestine and carried off an 11-1 victory. The win was just what Jacksonville needed coming off of an 11-4 defeat in their prior contest.
Jasmine Gallegos made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Gallegos has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive pitching appearances. Gallegos was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
In other batting news, Ryan Ramirez was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Mahala Sotelo, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Madisonville's offense. They suffered a rough 11-0 loss at the hands of Bullard on Friday. Madisonville has not had much luck with Bullard recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Jacksonville's record now sits at 18-12. As for Madisonville, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-14.
Jacksonville came out on top in a nail-biter against Madisonville when the teams last played back in March, sneaking past 6-4. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Madisonville's Maylynn McCarty, who struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits.
