Bishop O'Connell is on a 14-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Bishop McNamara is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Knights will host the Mustangs at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Bishop O'Connell barely beat Paul VI the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Knights were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Panthers on Tuesday. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.
Abby Bond was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ari Clark, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.
Bishop O'Connell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Paul VI only posted an OBP of .222.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bishop McNamara). They never let The Academy of the Holy Cross get on the board and left with a 24-0 win on Wednesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Madison Stewart and Isabella Webb were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Stewart tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Webb pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Stewart went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Webb got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one run.
In other batting news, Bishop McNamara got a massive performance out of Alyssa Scatliffe, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Jaslyne Ivey, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
The victory got Bishop McNamara back to even at 9-9. As for Bishop O'Connell, their win bumped their record up to 12-0.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Bishop O'Connell has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Bishop McNamara struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.7 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bishop O'Connell took their victory against Bishop McNamara when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 20-0 score. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
