Basketball Game Preview: DePue Little Giants vs. Galva Wildcats

DePue and Galva are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2014, but not for long. The two teams will round out the year against one another at at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. DePue is looking for their season's first win.

DePue is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Indian Creek on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. DePue had to suffer through a 76-40 loss at the hands of Indian Creek. While losing is never fun, the Little Giants can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 741st, while the Timberwolves are ranked 305th).

While Galva didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-21), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on Midland with a sharp 59-38 victory on Monday. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 21 points or more this season.

Galva has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.1 points per game. As for DePue, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.

DePue was dealt a bruising 67-34 defeat at the hands of Galva when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Can DePue avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
