Softball Preview: Woodsboro Eagles vs. Charlotte Trojans
The Woodsboro Eagles are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will face off against the Charlotte Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Charlotte will be up against a hot Woodsboro squad: the team just extended their winning streak to ten. Everything went the Eagles' way against Mathis on Saturday as they made off with a 10-3 win. Ten seems to be a good number for the Eagles as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Sidney Castillo made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
In other batting news, Aniya Zena was excellent, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Woodsboro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mathis only posted a batting average of .286.
Meanwhile, Charlotte got the win against Poteet on Saturday by a conclusive 14-4.
Woodsboro's record now sits at 10-1. As for Charlotte, their record is now 5-0.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Woodsboro has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .497. However, it's not like Charlotte struggles in that department as they've averaged .623. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Woodsboro skirted past Charlotte 3-2 when the teams last played back in February of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
