Basketball Recap: St. James Takes a Loss

St. James won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Thursday. They lost 64-44 to the Alexander Cougars.

Leading Alexander to victory were Gregory Dunson and Marquise Leslie. Dunson went 8 of 16 on his way to 23 points, while Leslie went 7 for 13 on his way to 16 points in addition to five boards and three blocks. The matchup was Dunson's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Micah Goodlow, who posted five points and five assists.

St. James has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-3 record this season. As for Alexander, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-3.

St. James and Bluefield will face off at 4:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. As for Alexander, they and Dobyns-Bennett will face off at 8:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Dobyns-Bennett has won four straight at home, while Alexander won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
