Basketball Recap: Ashley Takes a Loss

If Ashley was feeling good fresh off their 49-27 takedown of Owendale-Gagetown last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Ashley Bears were outmatched by the Sacred Heart Academy Irish and fell 73-38. The Bears were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-13.

Ashley's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Zoe Schneider, who posted seven points and five rebounds, and Ellie Drummond, who earned 15 points and eight boards. Drummond is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last ten games she's played.

Even though they lost, Ashley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

Ashley's defeat dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Sacred Heart Academy, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 15-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ashley will square off against Webberville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sacred Heart Academy, they will face off against Calhoun Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
